I killed Safari!

So I downloaded the leaked 1.2, which didn't work. Then I go to Apple's site and download the latest version from them, and it wont let me install it on my comp!

It just says "You cannot install this software on this volume. This system cannot use this software."

How can I fix this?

I'm thinking Safari 1.2 left it's traces on my computer. Maybe. How is it that I remove anything that 1.2 left on my computer?

If you're using Panther, then the Safari available for download on Apple's site isn't going to install on your system. You need to use a utility like Pacifist to extract Safari from your original install disks and copy it back to the Applications folder.

You very well may be out of luck if this doesn't work for you -- but that's the risks one assumes when one uses untested and non-public (possibly illegal) software.

According to the rumors out safari 1.2 will only run on 10.3.3. Do like the others suggest, use pacifist to extract Safari from the panther install cd.

Thanks ElDiabloConCaca! I used the program you mentioned, and I got my Safari back. And I learned my lesson, no more untested-beta software for me!
