I Trashed my FileVault .sparseimage

I'm a brand new mac user, and I was loading massive amounts of music onto my new macbook pro, and I mysteriously ran out of space, which surprised me because I had a 100GB harddrive.

I used a program called WhatSize to find out what was taking up so much space, and I found a 69GB file named tim.sparseimage [my shortname for my account is tim].

I trashed it, but it wouldn't delete because it was in use.

Googling sparseimage, I found out more of what it is, and discovered it is related to FileVault.

I still have all my data, but I had to reload my iTunes library and all my bookmarks in Firefox.

Unfortunately, I still have no space on my drive, because the sparseimage is in the trash.

I'm not sure if I should restore it and risk screwing my data, or if I should try to disable FileVault.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, and I'm not too good with the console, so I'd need to be walked through that if need be.

Thanks in advance.
