i want a good PHP book

hello,
i have some basic php knowledge. i'd like to find a book that teaches the basics and also some more advanced stuff about php. ddoes anyone have any suggestions? thanks doug

I've read "Beginning PHP 5 and MySQL" by Jason W. Gilmore, and I did learn PHP. Second edition will be available on October 24 according to Amazon.

Professional PHP Programming is a good book. Although I learned most of my PHP from the Web

Not to criticize you, but that book is almost 6 years old and covers PHP 3.

Try the PHP Anthology from Sitepoint (www.sitepoint.com). There's two of them, volume I and (surprise!) volume II. They're good and unboring. Introduces you to object-oriented PHP programming, and that's really good. Content covers PHP 4 and PHP 5.

I have no affiliation what so ever with Sitepoint or the authors, but I do like these books…
