iBook and DVD Burner

Ok I know this is not the way to go, but currently it is all I can do. I have a 700MHz G3 iBook w/ 640mb ram and a 30gb hd. I plan on getting a firewire external HD also and I was wanting to know if it is even possible to use an external DVD burner on a G3 iBook and still get good quality movies and make them in a decent amount of time. As long as you can get them into the iBook somehow, you'll be just fine. You may find yourself limited by hard disk space, but the DVD writer will be just fine when connected via firewire.
