ibook and PC Monitor

I am pondering about buying the ibook (the cheapest model). But, my bro needs to use an Apple system because he's a graphics design major. I hate to buy the G4 only because I want a portable computer. so, do you think the ibook (500mhz which is going for $1300) will be able to run photoshop?

Also, can I hook up my pc monitor to the ibook? would i need some sort of connector?

Yeah the iBook does run Photoshop rather well, however there are a couple things to keep in mind. First, you're going to want to load up on ram, so plan on getting yourself at least a 256 mb stick which will run you about $100.

The other thing is, what OS will he be using? If he is a graphics design he will probably be used to OS9, which is a good thing because Photoshop on your iBook will run great in 9, but a little sluggish in 10. This is just from my personal experience, I am using an old Photoshop 7 beta in X and it's rather slow. But it's just a beta, so who knows.

About your external monitor question, the iBook comes with an adapter that will work with most any monitor.

Good luck!

Thinking about running the new OS X. If not, I would rather buy the G4 just for him, and maybe an old laptop for me. I am a PC person, and I just want to play around with OS X.

If you can wait a week or so (when PS is released), I can get back to you how the retail version of Photoshop runs. Like I said, I'm using a beta version and it feels sluggish .. but it's still usable.
