Ibook Can't Read Cd-rs

my ibook has developed a habit of not being able to read cd's I or any other computer have burnt. It comes up with message 'this disk contains no osx readable files' or simply displays cd icon but when you click on it, no folders are displayed.

secondly, my keyboard now does not let me do a capital 's' in any program. it works if i do cap locks 's' but not when i do shift 's'

any help would be greatly appreciated!
 
I have a similar problem with my iBook SE, but when I insert a CD-R nothing mounts and I ear the CD spinning until I eject it with the eject button on the cd tray. Sometimes, it won't eject so I have to boot and hold the mouse button. I tried cleaning it the best I could, it didn't do anything. What kind of iBook do you have (Clamshell, White G3 or White G4)?
 
my ibook is a white g3. it doesn't seem to read any burnt cd's any longer, even one's not burnt on my computer. it is really starting to annoy me. please help!
