ibook clamshell screen flicker

I have a friend with an ibook clamshell whose screen has started to flicker. She says it lights up and then flickers regularly after booting...As she is in Canada and I'm in U.S., I'm trying to diagnose from afar. BTW, I have refirbed clamshells for a few years and have parts for all colors if needed. Just not sure if I should send her a new display/top or if it might just be the cable (although she says moving the top makes no difference) or the inverter board perhaps...Don't think its the backlight as it is on and ok during booting...Hope not the motherboard, but could use some expert advice if someone here knows..Also, I believe the displays for firewire and non firewire clamshells may be a bit different although they are interchangable (have done it a few times), but are the inverter boards fro a nonfirewire (eg tangerine) compatible with a firewire (eg. indigo) display. Help very welcome....Rick
