Ibook Doesn't Recognize Tv

Hi to all!

I'm having trouble hooking up an iBook G4 800 to my TV. I have connected the iBook many times to external displays (projectors) using the supplied vga-out adapter with success every time. My friend recently brought me an Apple iBook TV-out adapter from the store in London, but when I connected the iBook to the TV it incorrectly recognizes the TV as a VGA display not as a TV. I've tried connecting it to 3 different television sets, all multi-system, to no avail. Also, I've used both the composite and S-video out signals. In Display Preferences I don't get the TV preferences pane when connected, only the VGA monitor one, meaning I can't choose what resolution and TV signal system (PAL, NTSC). There is a signal, at lower resolutions I can see the screen but again, because it isn't the correct signal it comes up as 3 different screens on the TV. I've tried updating the iBook graphics drivers and I also installed ATI Displays which doesn't do anything either. One of the TVs I've used has been used successfully to connect a PBook 15" to it so that's not a problem. I've read on various forums that a few other people have had similar problems and have had their iBooks sent in for Logic Board Repair to correct this problem. Quite frankly I'd like to avoid such a solution, if possible.
If anybody has any suggestions I'd appreciate them!
Thanks,
Ofer

Hi IsraMac and welcome to the forum.
My brother had the same problem as you can read here on with his 12'' powerbook. I tried everything as well, but it seems to be a hardware issue. We sent it to Apple and they told us to pay 900€ for the exchange of the mainboard where the graphic unit is installed. Well, that was too much for us, so we told them to send it back.
How old is your ibook? Maybe there is still warrenty?

Thanks Zammy for welcoming me to the forum.
I actually read your post about your brother a couple of weeks ago. I got my iBook 18 months ago, so the warranty doesn't cover it anymore, although I am still covered under the Logic Board Repair program. I've tried all the options you guys tried, except resetting the PRAM. I'm going to upgrade to Tiger later on in the week (although I doubt that'll help). The problem with sending it in is that I rely on my iBook on a daily basis as I take it to university with me so I can't really send it in. Also I live in Israel and I'm not sure they would repair it here but send it to the States which might take even longer. I'll see if there are more suggestions coming in and research some more myself, although I must say that there aren't very many people with this peculiar problem. I'll update what I've found out.

Thanks,
Ofer
