ibook fan control

Hi, I was wondering whether it was possible to make the ibook's fan triggered earlier since i find it gets very hot when working on graphics or playing games (except for 3d ones where it actually triggers). It's very uncomfortable on my lap and I would not mind the noise... I don't see why I shouldn't be able to choose how it operates.
