ibook freezes on restore

I'm trying to do an install/restore on an iBook but it freezes. the apple logo comes up and then shifts a bit to the right, and there are 2 random blocks that appear.

It's been doing that all afternoon and i really need to get it installed because i'm trying to sell it.

Any idea why it wont go past that screen? I've tried running a hardware test and it comes up with errors.

What errors show up? Can you still boot into OS X? Are you using the original CDs that came with the computer? Do you have other disks available?
