The flashing ? means that your iBook can't find a bootable system. It could just mean that the Mac operating system needs to be reinstalled. Could also mean that the hard drive has failed. More often, on an iBook, it means the hard drive has failed, and needs to be replaced. Think about 40-50 tiny screws, the iBook has to be completely disassembled to get at the hard drive. Oh, then it has to be reassembled. Then, you'll need to reinstall the OS X system, and get everything working again. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to replace a hard drive, not including any software installs.
If you pay someone to do this, a shop will be at least $75/hour for labor, plus you need to purchase a hard drive ($40 to $75, I suppose)
Very challenging to do the repair yourself - but, paying a shop to do the replacement will be $200, maybe more.
