iBook G3, new Aiport b card, not recognising?

I've just bought myself a brand-new (sealed/never used) old Airport card for my iBook G3, i put it in, makde sure it was snug, attached the antenna, and booted the iBook up again.

It doesn't though appear in Sys Prefs, and not under the Airport section in System Profiler..

what am i doing wrong?

ok using airport set-up, 'no airport card was detected'...

it's as firm as i can push it in... what can i try? i've reset the PRAM a few times already...

Are you sure it's in there firmly and correctly? Also, there is a small, flat connector from the airport adapter to the motherboard - make sure that's in.

Make sure all applicable firmware is installed..

damn. there's no possible movement, so it's in properly, antenna's in, all the firmware is up to date, it's got the latest airport software in it, i've restarted... it's a brand new airport card... all that leaves is a duff airport connector in the ibook...

....or the card is defective - even if you got it on ebay, you should still
be able to return it, unless you paid cash.

Do you have the option of trying it in an iBook that has a working airport card already in it? Maybe at an apple store?

hmm it's pretty old technology... i'll try though.

how good are apple stores for helping without charging? i may have already spent £35, i do'nt want to spend that again for them to tell me that it's broken...

From my experience, they can help/offer advice for free, but have to charge if they open anything.
