Hi
My iBook freezes then only boots up til blue screen. Obviously this symptom is pretty generic because I have found and tried loads of methods to address problem to no avail.
When I exhausted all start-up combinations, I burned a new Tiger OS 10.4.11 onto a clean (journalled) hard drive on my iBook and ran it from TARGET MODE on my iMac without any problem. (That's how I loaded the new system and ran tests because my iBook optical drive is out as of a couple years. I had to open the case a while back to remove a DVD that was determined not to come out)
However, when I put my iMac in TARGET MODE and run its hard drive on the iBook, the laptop freezes in appr 30 minutes.
When I restart iBook it will load system and get to desktop a couple more times and then freeze progressively quicker.
Finally it wont get to desktop at all and just freezes in blue screen ... until I let it sit for a few hours and suddenly it starts and runs for a half hour and then repeats above cycle.
Can this be HEAT RELATED? Is there a distortion occurring as the temperature rises in one of the circuits? I installed a temp gauge and saw it running about 82-87F at circuit board before it froze.
Could this be a glitch in a VIDEO component seeing as the system/drive works perfectly in my iMac environment?
If it's the LOGIC BOARD (which passed hardware test but seams prone to problems) what is the chance of my fixing it myself with new part?
Oh, there was a "shim" for video chip that I tried but I can't be sure I applied the necessary pressure and not entirely sure I want to increase force and risk additional harm.
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel
