iBook G4 broadband disconnect

I’ve been having a problem for a couple of months now where my iBook G4 will disconnect from the internet after it is idle for a little while. It is not the cable, I have tried this on two different connections, and it does the same thing. It only happens on broadband, not wireless. I’m guessing it is the network card inside of my laptop that is causing the trouble. Are there replacements? Sometimes it does it over and over, sometimes not at all. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It is very frustrating. It only started happening about four months ago. Thanks.

How are you connecting through broadband? Direct to the modem? Through a router? PPPoE?

If you use Internet Connect for a PPPoE connection, there are preferences for disconnecting when idle for a certain period of time.

It only happens on broadband, not wireless.

Does that mean you have a router? If so, test the wired connection to your router using the ping routers.ip.ad.ress in the terminal. Any package-loss?
