iBook G4 Powerdown

Hi

I just purchased an iBook G4 a couple of days ago from the Apple Store on the other side of town at the Mall of America. It is a brand new 14-inch, 1.33Ghz, 756MB Ram and 60 GB H/Drive, OS X 10.4 with all the latest software updates. It has been running fine the past couple of days but all of a sudden (the battery level was at about 80%) the screen went totally blank and there was no power. If I pressed the power putton - nothing happened!

In an act of desperation, after tapping keys and opening and closing the lid (which in my mind seemed worth a try) I removed the battery and placed it back in. That enabled the power button to work but when the system restarted the date had set itself to 1969!!! Other than that it seems fine.

Any ideas why it powered down that way, what happened/caused it and how do i prevent it from happening again?

Most confused!

Cheers

Replace, or if it has a warranty, most certainly have Apple replace the PRAM battery (I think that's what it's called.) Some Apple computers would refuse to start with this battery dead. It also supplies power to save the system time, so that explains why the time would reset like that.

i only got it from the Apple store 2 days ago so I'm going to head back there now, thanks. Hell of a drive but if they will fix it then all the better! :)
