Greetings
A strange thing happened today with my ibook G4. I Bought my ibook in early july, naturally just before the new line came out (figures). I have had absolutely no trouble with it up until now, and it has served me very well.
Here is what happened: Late last night I was on the the computer just before I went to bed. The battery was getting low (it was about 15%) but I figured I would recharge it in the morning. I closed the lid and the computer went to sleep.
When I got home from work this morning, I took my laptop out of my bag and was going to check my email real quickly. The sleep light was on and blinking. I opened up the lid, I heard the hard drive start to spin up, and I went to my bag to get my charger and plug it in. I wasn't really paying attention to the screen or anything during this whole process. After I plugged in the adapter, I noticed that the screen was infact off. I figured that I must have ran down the battery to the point where the computer shut itself off. No biggie, I thought, as I have done this once before. I waited a minute, pushed the power button, and....nothing. The adapter was plugged in, the light was orange, and the battery charge indicator on the battery itself was blinking.
Well, I started to panic. I held down the power button for 10 seconds to see If it would restart...nothing. Being somewhat new to macs (recently switched from PC), I went online to see about hard resetting. I tried a key combination that infact was incorrect, and finally the control-command-power worked and the computer started up.
Problem solved. Well, no. After being gleeful that my laptop was working (and assuming I screwed up some power management program), I placed it from the desk to the bed to check my email. When I put it on the bed, the laptop once again died and exhibited the same problems as before. However, the control-command-power button seemed to solve the issue and hence where this post is coming from. The light for the adapter turned green for a short while before the laptop was powered up, and as soon as it turned on went to orange and showed a partial charge (which it should have.) Now, I am not sure 1.) why it wouldn't come out of sleep in the first place. 2.) why moving the laptop caused it to die. I was worried that something was knocked loose in the case, but I have not dropped my laptop nor does it sound like it in the case.
I have heard of logic boards going on older ibooks, but from what I understand it is not exhibiting logic board failure (screen works fine, no partial power-up). I am hoping I caused a glitch somewhere by running the battery down to the nub, but I am not sure. Currently, I am treating the laptop VERY GINGERLY (AKA NOT MOVING IT). Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.
Frank
PS: Im also terrified to put it to sleep....
