Hello.

I want to add more ram to my ibook - i ahve 128 - and i wanna get another 128...

CAn i use PC Ram? Standard 128Mb DIMMS - 144 Pin.

WIll PC RAM Work?

Asif

maybe - some ram seems to be more compatible than others. its pretty much a crapshoot. i bought mine really cheap at fry's about a year ago and have never had any identifiable problems with it. fry's certainly didn't advertise that it would work for me, but it did. however this site is filled with threads from people who got incompatible or 'bad' ram.

just be sure that you get it somewhere you can return it if it doesn't work.

My guess is that the dimms inside your ibook are the miniature kind called "SO-DIMMS" .....and therefore regular pc100/133 etc ram from your PC wont work [they wont even fit]. If your spare ram chips floating around fit in your ibook, try them out, so long as they fit they should either work or not work for the most part. [assuming they are modern].

Ram used to be even worse in the old days. There were a lot of lame transition periods between ram types like "fast page mode" and "EDO ram" etc etc.....[did I mention the PRICES!?!] :) :)

My advice is to visit a good website like www.otherworldcomputing.com [where I bought my imac ram] ...choose your ibook/computer model and it will show what ram chips are compatible. The prices are fairly competetive from what i've seen.

Hope that helps, and if anyone else can throw some good websites out that would probably be good for him.

yea, let me qualify my previous post as i do not know exactly which type of ram fits in the ibook. my point was that if it is the correct type, it does not neccesarily have to be labeled mac compatible to work. of course, you might save yourself a lot of trouble by making sure from the start. i admit i think i was pretty lucky in my experience.

Your ibook takes SO-DIMMs. Apple has very strict requirements of the SO-DIMMs used in their equipment. If the memory doen't pass the diagnostics at boot your machine will not continue to load. My recommendation for a place to purchase memory is www.macsolutions.com. They guarentee all their memory to be compliant and the have some of the cheapest prices (see below).
