iBook - will Apple repair it?

marz

Master of my Universe
I have a dual USB G3 500 iBook, that has the dreaded backlight problem, the one with the video chip soldiering is the problem or some such thing. I've taken the thing apart, and reassembled it a couple of times, and admit that I had some screws leftover when I finished. It's out of warranty, and I didn't get AppleCare.

So my question is: Would Apple accept it for repair if it's been opened? And if so, does anyone know what kind of charges I'd been looking at?

Thanks!

Apple has depot service to repair iBooks, doesn't matter if you have opened the thing, if you realize that you are not in warranty and will pay for the repair. Apple has various levels of repair (basically including display replacement, or not including display replacement). Just a reasonable guess would be around $400 if no display needs to be replaced. (Your problem may require display, you might double that amount) You can take it to an Apple Authorized service, and they can give you an accurate quote. Some shops can repair on site

By disassembling your iBook, you have probably ruined any chance of Apple offering to repair a known problem (which they occasionally do) even out of warranty. (But it's still worth asking!)
