iBook wont stay asleep with USB keyboard plugged in

I can't get my iBook to stay asleep when a USB keyboard is plugged into it. It goes into sleep mode but comes right out of it, and goes into some kind of goofy sleep-wake-sleep-wake loop while the lid stays closed (not cool!)

I've used the Screen Spanning Doctor hack in the past to enable clamshell mode, which I haven't been very fond of due to my usage. I've done the reset-nvram and reset-all in OpenFirmware since then, which killed monitor spanning and I assume removed clamshell (but maybe it didn't)... I don't know what the normal iBook behavior is to compare with. Maybe it's a hold over from this hack, and hopefully someone has the insight to know how to change it back.

Is there any way to tell the iBook that external keyboards shouldn't wake it up?

Spurious signals can wake up your iBook, like an optical mouse that is moved even slightly.
If your keyboard is not a Mac keyboard, then some aspect (extra keys, lights on keyboard, etc) could be triggering this.
If the keyboard plugs into a USB hub, that could be the issue also.
If there are no problems with the keyboard disconnected, then unplug before you want the ibook to sleep.
Have you tried a different keyboard?
