Is it something to do with the AV? The location (although I moved it back without success.

Download Pacifist at http://www.charlessoft.com and reinstall iChat.
 
Okay, I have Pacifist. Now, however, after checking all 3 Panther disks, I find no iChat. The other i's are there. But no iChat.
