iChat A/V one way question

i was doing a one way video chat for the first time and it worked perfectly. today, i try it and either

a) the person on the other end can't hear me, but i can hear them, or

b) they can hear me, but i can't hear them.

i'm using my canon gl1 for the video camera. i tried restarting finder, then restarting the whole computer to no avail...

anyone else experiencing this?
 
I discovered something similar when one side had a low bandwidth. Make sure there are no downloads running in the background.
