iChat - am I silly or ... ?

Ok, so I get iChat, and select Use my .Mac Account for AIM (since I don't have a LAN to use Rendezvous on).

It automatically fills in the username field with my entire email address. I enter my password and connect just fine.

Now what do I give out as my nickname? My email address, the "Sanford Michael" that appears at the top of my contact list over my status?

Also, is there any way to add a contact without cluttering up my address book?

There is no way to add contacts without spamming your AddressBook, sorry
I don't know anything about problem #1. I think you should give michaelsanford@mac.com as your contact name.

it gives out the handle you have - not your name - as toast said. it'll give your shorter or other nickname or name other than the ichat handle only if your friends have saved you to their address book etc.
