hi

after searching through the archives here my question:

i have a g4 with a Miglia AlchemyTV card installed,
if i plugin my isight, ichat only recognizes the TVcard.

i don't wanne take-out the TVcard
everytime i want to use the isight with ichat.
i mean, osx is intelligent enough to let me choose the desired input,
it's just that ichat doesn't have this option ..

why?
and how do i make ichat use the isight instead of the TVcard?

thanks,
arri

WOW

i actually knew this, but forgot ..
i stumbled across this while installing the card,
but didn't have the isight yet back then.

thanks for refreshing my memory!

another question:

i know the isight drivers provide the capability to control all sort of camera settings,
such as shutter speed, white balance, (manual) focus etc..

does anyone know of a way to access these settings in ichat?

thanks,
arri

I did a little searching and didn't find anything on Controling from iChat.

I don't have that camera, so I don't know the software. But you may be able to creat an Alias on the iSight Control on your desktop for easy access.

hi bobw,

what you write sounds very interesting,
but don't make sense to me at all..

what is iSight Control? an alias to the desktop?

what i was talking about, were the available controls in the drivers,
which programmners can make available through the standard QT video-settigns ..

see the screengrab of BTV's video-input settings..
would be great if ichat had this functionality
or someone would write a plugin to realise that in ichat.

thanks,
arri

Like I said, I don't have the iSight, so don't know the software. But, you have a place to make setting changes from seeing your pictures. If you want easy access to that window, find the source and make an alias if possible.

if i understand you right;

i should find-out where in the OS, or (hidden) in iChat is the standard QT video-settings window.. and make an alias to that for easy access.

maybe i don't understand you right.
what dou you mean by "the software"?
the isight driver? of ichat?

what i know of the driver, is what i know from for instance David Rokeby,
the developer of softVNS (video-software-plugin for use in Max/MSP) and
how the driver is accessable from within BTV..

these functions are not accesable from within iChat.. probably because apple
doesn't like to confront people with too many features or something,
for the sake of useablity..

hope this makes sense to you.

If I'm understanding you, you have to use settings for iSight outside of the iChat application.

Or, do you have a settings window within iChat for the iSight?

no, there's no iSight-settings window in iChat, and..
yes, yet i want to access these settings within i chat.

so i guess this is all impossible..

thanks anyway

well, usually, in many applications through the video-settings panel...
... which laks in iChat.

as i understand, this video-settings panel is a standard quicktime-grabber thing you can call in an application, to present these settings to your users.. if you're a programmer.

so i wouldn't know how/where to find this in iChat,
and i would love to know how

Those controls have to be specifically written into the application -- there's no application that allows youto adjust those settings globally. What bobw was suggesting was that, if there was in fact an "iSight Controls" application, that you could just make an alias to it on your Desktop for easy launching.

BTV specifically wrote those controls into the application, and they're only available in that application. iChat does not provide a way to adjust those settings -- it may in a future release, but like I said, they'd have to specifically write those options into the application for them to be available.

Ok, while you're using iChat, if you want to change the settings for your iSight, exactly how do you do it?

.. you can't, as far as i know!

and that's what my question was about.
does anyone know a way of doing this?

Ok, understand now.

I was assuming since you have software to install with the iSight, you would have some sort of control/preference to use for the settings.
