iChat Major Problems !! Can anyone suggest any answers please?

Hi

I have now the latest version of OS X 10.2.2, I intended to use ichat, and though I have set it upcorrectly, when I try to change anything in preferences, a sign comes up with the following banner:

"UNCAUGHTARGUMENTEXCEPTION" ***-[NSPlaceholderMutableDictionaryinitWithObjects:forKeys:count:]:attempt to insert nil value

It then asks me to Quit or Continue and when I click Continue, the sign simply vanishes. I also cannot use iChat, as though someone sends me an instant message, the writing comes up in a black bubble which i cannot read, and I can not reply to them as I cannot type in the reply box, for some reason. It used to work but then suddenly stopped.

Please can you offer any suggestions as to how I can get this to work as I used to use iChat a great deal and now I cannot use it at all? I do use AOL from time to time but used iChat alongside AOL and AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) for months without a problem. Can anyone suggest anything? My email address is planetzany at graffiti dot net.

Many thanks.

Liz,

Try this:
1. pop into terminal app (/applications/utilities/terminal)
2. type
rm ~/Library/Preferences/*ichat*
3. start ichat again

Been a while since I've used osx but I think that'll fix anything - you'll have to set up your ichat preferences again but no big drama.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me

Get 10.2.3 update..

Then delete ichat plist file from library / preferences. That could fix it. How did you set your account??
