iChat menu bar menu opens chat rooms ...

i just installed jag on my mom's computer back home, and ichat opens up chat rooms instead of individual chats with the person you select.
any idea how to change this?
 
If you select their name from the ichat status icon in the menu bar, it opens up a chat room.

If you double click on their name in the ichat app, it creates a private chat.

there is no way to change this to my knowledge. it has something to do with that the ichat app doesnt need to be running to be logged into AIM.
 
it doesn't do it this way on my computer at home. if you select their name from the menu bar, it creates a private chat. i don't know exactly how i did that...
 
there was for a day
it was called macosx i think
in ichat type apple-g, then enter macosx
the chatroom is always empty though :(
