Icons under 'SHARED' changing shape randomly

Hi Folks

This is my first post...

In the Finder sidebar I see icons representing other computers on my network. Sometimes they are blue images of a computer, other times they are images of disks. I have included some screen shots of both versions and wonder if anybody can explain why they randomly change?

Appreciate any response.

Blue icons indicate Windows shares, or shares that are discovered using the SAMBA/SMB protocol. As an aside, if you are able to change the size of that icon and make it really big, you'll see it's actually a "blue screen of death" icon... a little friendly ribbing from one company to another.

In other words, the icons will change depending on which protocol is used to access that share -- a "disk" icon, I believe, is an NFS share.
