iDVD Doesn't Encode Sound For AVIs

Hi,

I've tried iDVD for the first time today and have had mixed results.

I tried putting some Bugs Bunny cartoons I have as avi files into a Magic iDVD project to make a DVD.

The titles are great, the video quality is super, but there's no sound.

Not a peep.

They play fine in VLC, but without sound in Quick Time.

I know nothing about video editing, so am hoping this is a just a codec issue that is easily rectified given a nudge in the right direction.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Bowjest

Hi, All,

I found the answer after all. :)

http://www.perian.org/

Just download and install. My avi's now play in QuickTime, so expect they will work in iDVD when I've completed my new DVD. If not, I'll post here again.

This has happened to me several times when trying to play a video given to me - great picture, no sound. Most recently, Quicktime said I needed a component for Xvid. So I fetched it, installed and restarted - no sound. I tried the video on Windows XP - there was the sound.

Whitehill,

The Perian download sorted the problem for me instantly. Give it a try. As I had hoped, my new DVD in iDVD plays perfectly! :)

Very much my pleasure, Whitehill.

I seem to always be needing help myself, so am very glad to be able to pay something back to everyone.

Take care,

Bowjest
