if the iMac g5 had a touch screen...

I am the law!
and you were to cut its foot off, it would be a tablet. ::ha::

after looking at the new iMac, it occurred to me that its not that far away from being a tablet. Obviously a lot of compromises would have to be made to make it light and thin, but you don't have to try to hard to imagine what an apple tablet would look like.

cept for the 18 pound weight issue...

but yeah, it seems like it's a step in the right direction

There should be an option to hang it on the wall, with power supply on left side, it would be the perfect digital entertainement center (all controls using BlueTooth, Internet connection and audio out over WiFi).

Then again, it just perfectly _isn't_ a tablet computer. And not even a 'move into that direction' or anything. But if you wanted to buy an Apple tablet computer and the iMac suits your need... Go ahead. ;-)

I don't want a Tablet... but a computer made of a screen that I can hang on the wall and control with a wireless keyboard and mouse and that would connect to the Internet and other peripherals over WiFi.

The new iMac does it... if one can put its power supply on the side or on the bottom of the screen.

There are too many things like posters, paintings, and shelves that fall off my wall in the middle of the night. Most of them end up just fine while others are ruined. Imagine explaining to an Apple Tech that your iMac took a turn for the worst when it crashed onto the desk and split apart on the tiled floor.

Wait until Apple releases its iTV with hanging Phillips television.

The iMac is VESA compliant and you could hang it from the wall safely on a VESA arm or bracket thingy.

A tablet is a horrible idea. It's one of those things that people say: Ohh, we need. But the practicality of it.
Fingerprints all over the screen? How to control the dock? Clicking? Dragging? Double-clicking? Right-clicking? Clicking then typing an e-mail? Or using your finger to scribble an e-mail? Screen resolution? Clicking something from the menu bar? Precision work such as PhotoShop?
And you hold it with one hand while scribbing with the other? There's a big reason why they haven't been successful? They look nice but a tablet computer just isn't that functional.
If you really want the functionality, get a Wacom tablet. If you really want to use your finger, get a laptop and use the trackpad. If you really want a touch screen, get a Palm. The size and usage on a pda makes far more sense than on a computer.

I have to agree that the iMac looks like a tablet, or at least it's heading that way. I also have to agree that tablet PCs are useless. If you want portability, go notebook. If you want power, go desktop. If you want touchscreen, go with a Palm. etc...etc...

I agree with Randman on the fact that the dock will be hard to control...personally, I don't like tablet PCs....

Yes. You heard so many people crying out for a headless Mac, and Apple went ahead and came out with a bodyless Mac.
