Illustrator CS2 constant crashing

Hi, I have this ongoing problem with a G4 Power Mac (MDD pre 2005). CPU speed - 1.25Mhz x 2, 768MB Ram.
Illustrator constantly crashes. I have performed a complete system restore, un-installed and re-installed 2 seperate versions of CS2, updated software, re-organised fonts and can think of nothing else. I thought possibly it could be an old A6 Wacom tablet (ET-0405A-U) that is being used on the machine and have updated the driver, but this problem started occuring before the wacom was used.
I would really appreciate any help.

If you're on Mac OS X 10.4.8 you might want to try to go to 10.4.7, since there appears to be a problem with Illu CS2 and 10.4.8.
 
If you have 10.4.8, how can you go back. Or better yet, is there a way to do a clean install from the DVD and the update to 10.4.7.

I am going through utter hell since upgrading to Suitcase Fusion. Everything either crashes, slows down or just plain freezes. At the point of having to reformat and reinstall, and that's gone horribly awry.
