I'm stupid with Mac

I've always used PCs. Bought an old Powerbook G3, can it be connected to my Lynsys WRT54GS router? Is the card available for something this old. I'm not trying to over task anyone, just point me in the right direction and push. Thanks, Mike

Yes, if a computer of any type will do TCP/IP (most any halfway modern computer) and get out to the internet. You just have to know what to do in the said computer. Time to learn something more than just Microsoft. The question you have to tell us is what operating system is the Mac running? Buy an ethernet cable or if you want to go wireless will the Mac (depending how old the operating system is) take a third party card and be able to use it. MacWireless would be a good place to start. The one thing is you have to check out the compatibility of any wireless device to the operating system that is on the Mac.

Thanks Satcomer. OS 9.1. I've been wanting to try mac and picked up the old G3 to try and learn. you know, before I spend for a new Mac.

Well, you'll get very familiar with Mac OS 9, but you might be somehwat limited with Mac OS X on that laptop. This doesn't mean that it can't be done....depending on the PowerBook G3 you bought (there were many revisions of it), you might get as high as 10.2. The last PowerBook G3 (aka "Pismo" which has Firewire and USB ports) should be able to install 10.3. Not sure about 10.4. Mind you, I'm talking about official installs.

As for unofficial installs, there is a program called XPostFacto that allows you to run higher versions of OS X on systems that arent officially supported by the higher versions anymore.

Also remember that you're on an older system, so if you do decide to give Mac OS X a try you're goign to need to realize that it won't run that fast. But at least you'll have a taste of the OS X experience. I recommend that you also try and find an Apple Store or reseller near you and test drive one of the Macs there. That will surely give you a better idea of what OS X would feel like on a modern Mac.
