iMac can't connect to Mac mini

Ok, over the weekend I had a new Mac mini connected to an iMac running OS 9.2 via a LAN. In the network browser on the iMac, I can see the Mac mini and could connect to it after entering the password. On the Mac mini, I could see the iMac but could not connect to the iMac due to some AFP protocol incompatibility.

I was able to copy files from the iMac to the Mac mini using the LAN connection and all was fine. Today, I tried to connect the iMac to the Mac mini and after a rather long time, I get prompted to enter the password. I do so and I get a dialog box with this error:

(I/O error.)"-1072"

I was able to find out the "-1072" code means "session closed", meaning the Mac mini closed the connection from the iMac. File sharing IS enabled on the Mac mini and I get this error regardless of the firewall being on or off.

Any ideas?

I'll be trying the things on this page but if anyone has any other info or ideas, I would love to read them. :)

Thanks!

Peace...

I don't know if this is how you are supposed to do it, but when I turned on Windows file sharing, all my macs talked to each other (and to the windows machine..)

I had not thought about that but I'll give it a try and see what happens. :)

One thing I forgot to mention is the iMac can connect to a Mac OS X server that is also on the LAN but it just won't connect to the Mac mini now. :(

Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Well, it looks like my problem was either a faulty network connection (physical connection) or a faulty hub.

The hub had a bad power connection, so I replaced it with a 5-port 10/100 switch. I also made sure the network cable (which has a bum clip) was firmly pushed into the Ethernet port and now the iMac can connect to the Mac mini, as before.

Peace...
