according to the keynote they are special angled and i presume designed and manufactured to boounce the sound straight off your desk upwards - with no loss of sound etc etc.
The speaker can't be designed to bounce sound any differently off an object than it already does. Sound is a wave. I think they might have a better high end to compensate for a lack of direct listener/ear dispersion.
I am disappointed that the new iMac didn't utilize the new metal look of all the new G5 products. That was the only prediction I was wrong on, based on the rumors flying around anyway.
At least my predictions were right.
- That the new iMac would ship with 1.6 and 1.8ghz processors
- That it would have the optical audio out taken from the Airport Express
- That it would be a physically different shape but still stick to the same design philosphy as the previous iMac.
It's actually kinda interesting that the iPod is both white and metal since it's not really aimed at consumer or pro, it's like a for anybody kinda thing.
I wonder if the pro speakers are supported with the new iMacs...cuz sound quality from built in speakers is...well, crap. One thing I love about the G4 iMacs was the 18watt built in woofer. But, even if they don't support them, there are always other options
Oh well, in any case, this is most deff. my next comp...
i'm sure the next emacs won't have a G5 but what G4 speed do you all think it will be.. 1.5-1.6 G4 maybe? anything lower wouldn't be worth a new release over the current 1.25.
I may want to buy an emac as a second desktop machine and its approaching the end of its cycle so there should be a new one by years end. I know G5 is the future but a 1.5GHz G4 would do me fine for a good while.
