I allwaysed liked the way the g3 b&w looked and the fact that you can connect a apple studio display to it. Well i have a friend that would trade me his b&w g3 tower with 400mhz 256mb and 10gb for my imac with 400mhz 256mb and 10gb the are the same spec for video card and everything. Should i take the trade i have heard that the b&w g3 give more prob with osx and stuff so should i. i know ya will come through you guys allways have for me. thanks in advance

I'm writing this using my B&W G3 so I guess this is proof that it'll work in OSX. I haven't had a single problem since going to OS X.

I would go for the trade for 2 reasons. THe largest reason being expandability. You have the option to place larger (multiple) hard drives as well as easily upgrading the video card.

The second reason is that the version of the G3 that came in the Blue and white towers has more cache than the iMac's My B&W has 1 MB cache and my iMac SE that I bought almost a year later only has 256k cache. You should see better performance out of the chip with a larger cache.

a tower will always be better than an all in one, if you don't have particular needs.
It's more expandable and therefore lives longer.
I don't have apple care, and never needed it.

I'd say go for it, that's quite the trade. Make sure your friend knows what he's doing though, if you want to keep him as a friend. If he's uninformed and comes back a week later accusing you of ripping him off, that might not be so great for your relationship.

Do you just get the G3, or a monitor as well?

WELL ON EBAY I HAVE SEEN GREAT B/W G3 FOR VERY CHEAP LIKE 400 AND IMACS FOR 600?? NA NO MONITOR OR SPEAKERS THATS THE THING
