imac fp ram clip broken

Hi,
I was recently attempting to install 512mb in my new flatpanel imac... and the unthinkable happened! one of the clips broke off and the ram refused to clip in place at all. :(

I can't afford to get the logic board replaced and it seems other ppl in the Apple forums are having the same problem.

My question is - what's the best way of installing and securing the RAM? Can I use electrical tape and the remaining clip?

The Apple place I bought it from says it'll work fine if I can get one clip to hold it.

thanks heaps,
Josh

Ram usually is a tight fit. If yours goes in tight, I wouldn't worry about it.

Bob - it springs outward at a 40 degree angle - does this not matter? I mean - is it not necessary to keep the module from touching the metal base plate?

I know what you mean about it being a tight fit though - the connector holds it alright.

Springs out - no good. If it doesn't remain firmly seated without the clip, I would have it fixed.

If this is a common problem, others in the Apple forum having the same problem, I would call Apple and see if they'll do anything about it.

Does the chip snap in with all the pins in place and snug? Just snap both sides in - pushing with a bit of force on the side with the broken clip in. You may feel like you are giving it too much force, but it should 'sit' without springing out.
