Hi, i have an imac g3 slot loading (non-firewire).
When i turn it on it makes the mac sound, the screen turns on, goes gray and then does nothing?
I have tried booting from installation disks, but it just spits them out.
Could you please tell me what is wrong and how i can fix it.

There are a big handful of possible causes. My first question though is did you just recently upgrade that computer from os 9 to os X?

When it turns on, hold down the keys: Apple-V which will tell it to boot into verbose mode. Then you can see exactly what it does just before it stops. It might even show some error messages that will help solve the mystery.

Try these quick-fixes which may not help but certainly will not hurt:
1. When the computer turns on hold down the keys: Apple-P-R until you hear the computer chime more than once. This is a PRAM reset.
2. When the computer turns on hold down Apple-O-F which will put you into Open firmware. Then type: reset-nvram <hit enter> set-defaults <hit enter> reset-all <hit enter>
