imac g3 m5521 wanting to run classic

I just got a imac g3 M5521, it came with OSX installed, I got this mac in hopes of running software I have from my old 6500ppc, when I tried to install a game it told me something about "classic" and that I needed os9.0 or later... So I have the install disc for os8.0 that was on my ppc. I tried to install this but could not start from the os8 disc (white in color) is it because the disc is for a ppc or what? Is buying a os9 disc the only way I will be able to run some of the older software?

Thanks for any light you may shine.

Hello; you'll need to find a retail copy of OS9.2 to install on your Imac. This will be your "classic" operating enviorment. You'll be able to boot from it as well after you install it.Make sure you have at least 500mb of disk space, more is better.Your IMac will not boot from a 8.0 disk as it is too old for the Imac. Also take note that some of your old games might not run under OS9.2. Had this problem some years ago on a older mac.Games ran good under 9 but 9.2 broke them.
Good Luck

Hi;According to Apple, OS 9.0.4 is the minimum os to boot this Imac.OS9.2.1 is required to run OSX in the classic mode. You can boot independently from either OS 9 without booting to OSX.Just remember the best way is to find a full retail install disk "white"Machine specific disks are grey in color.Your Imac is a DV/SE model, summer of 2000.That is how specific this disks can be.

Hope this helps!
