hi!

on the right, left, and top of the screen there are these quite lighter 'stains' - it is best noticed when the screen is all black and these 'stains' appear as grayish areas. did anybody encounter this before? what should i do? all help would be fantastic as i am rather upset about this.

thanks a lot,

andrea

That's the light for the LCD on the iMac G5. I've noticed it when I've gone into Single User Mode to perform some diagnostics. I believe that the light is residnet on the edges and shoots across the LCD liquid. Laptops also have this.

Have you noticed it on any black screens right after you purchased it? It's possible that you've only become aware of this now. The only time I've noticed something similar is when I've gone into the command line (single user mode specifically) for fixing things. But I've always attributed that to the LCD backlight. My iMac is about a few months old and I haven't seen this "issue" that you speak of.

Is it possible that you can supply an image of the issue with a digital camera image of the screen?

No it's not the computer. It IS the monitor's backlight. This situation, called backlight bleeding, is common among even high quality LCDs, and gets worse over time. Some LCDs never get it. My very nice Sony lcd, which is about 2 years old, has very sever backlight bleeding on the top and bottom, and weak bleeding on the sides. However, my sister's so-so quality Sony 15inch lcd, has none of this backlight bleeding and it's more than 3 years old! It is a natural problem with the lcd and can't be fixed.

I my digital camera was capable of taking a screenshot of my severe bleeding, i would post it here.

However, it is noon here and i have to take the pic while it is night time out, so you can see it.

here is the pic. i've never seen this before so i don't know to which degree it's problematic, but i sure don't like the look of it. i've had this mac since this september.
