when I press the power button the restart commences for about 20secs then the time stops on the wristwatch cursor. All suggested attempts to restart have failed such as restart the computer!
Try holding the shift key on startup. This will take longer as it is checking your disks, and starting in safe mode. If it's still stuck after ~ 20 min, then try something else. Bootup will take longer after a system update. What kind of iMac do you have?
thanks, I tried that then a message came up, "to continue booting type re-boot or something to that effect. When I did that the restart commenced as before then the wristwatch cursor stopped once again.
i appreciate your replies but i did not see a kernel panic and i dont have the original dvd. Further suggestions will be appreciated as i have obviously lost contact with all my files.
my apologies i did see a kernel panic, being new to the terminology i wasnt sure what you meant but in desperation i have reread all you have sent me and now i realise. I will try safe mode to get to the log-in prompt, you have given me much confidence. I will let you know the outcome after the weekend, once again you have been most helpful and very quick to reply.
thankyou.
