Imac USB ports not working

I have a 2.16 GHz imac 20 inch running under OS 10.6.3.
Recently I changed my 4-port USB hub for a 7-port hub. Now 2 USB ports are dead, and the third port will only accept self-powered devices, such as external drives, a printer, or memory sticks. I dare not plug in a hub, so I am faced with a lot of plug-swapping

I spoke to my supplier who informed me that the USB drivers are integrated in the main board, a replacement main board was needed, costing over £500, and it would only have one year's warranty.

Can anyone confirm what my supplier is telling me, or suggest some alternative action.

That does sound like a hardware problem then. I can't recommend much else (other than leaving the computer unplugged overnight -- that seems to cure some ailments in a "voodoo-type" fashion) other than to take the computer to an authorized repair specialist.
