iMovie '08 - storing in external drive

Is it possible to store my iMovie '08 events and projects on an external drive and still be able to see them through the iMovie interface? When I move my projects and events to an external drive it removes them from the iMovie window.

I don't see an option for this.. but there is a workaround. If you create a new user, and modify the location of its home directory to the external drive (/volumes/name_of_drive/imovie_user_folder), it will create the files on the drive. Obviously, far from a perfect solution. iMovie 6 is still on your computer.
