OK...from reading some of your posts, I am pretty sure you know way more about Mac stuff than I do. So humbly, I'll make a suggesting that you didn't list.
Trash the iMovie plist...
I am not sure if this will do it, but it's on my list of stuff to check when things head south. I was just having the same problem about 2 weeks ago with iMovie. I did everything and nothing really seemed to be fixing it.
For me, I think I narrowed it down to my Audio. My iTunes library is around 3500 tracks. It seems going there was causing most of the crashes.
Then, out of the blue, it just sort of stopped.
OK, I am rambling now...I'll stop. Trash the plist and see what happens.
