iMovie Sony camcorder import footage woes

Hello all,

I can't get iMovie 6 to recognize my camcorder ("no camera is detected")

The story thus far:

1) Footage imported to iMovie from my Sony DCR-HC30 was distorted and broke apart.

2) I thought the tape was old so I tried a new one --- this worked for a short period of time but then iMovie stopped recognizing camcorder (at first it would only recognize it sporadically --- then stopped seeing the camcorder altogether).

3) I tried a new firewire cable. iMovie recognized the camera but imported footage broke apart again.

4) Upon advice from the Apple Support Forums, I deleted the com.apple.iMovie.plist file.

5) Now iMovie will not recognize the camcorder again.

Any help or advice will be most appreciated!

Thanks very much :)

Hey,

My Sony is acting up, however, I have two different models of Sony HD Camcoders (FX1 and HC1).

When I upload them on the computer, Imovie plays the footage that has just been uploaded at a slower rate - sort of 2/3rd the speed - so that voices are lower and the footage is slower. very odd.

I spoke to Apple who said it was a fault with my camcorder, so I tried my other Sony cam corder and it did the same thing, so it simply is NOT my camcorders and is a fault on Imovie,

I am about to uninstall imovie '06 and all the other '06 apps and reinstall and hope it sorts some of this out...very wierd stuff.
