Importing mailboxes from Eudora in OS 8.6

Ok, here is the problem... my boss has finally decided to buy a new PB12", leaving his old Mac running OS 8.6.. since his computer is having serious problem, he decided to buy a screen and a keyboard for his office, and use the new PB as primary machine... he asked me to backup his data on my iPod, while his PB arrives, and all was ok... then he asked me the difficult thing... he has tons of message in Eudora, starting from 1997, and only the ones from 2004 are still on the server; so, i tried to test if my Mail.app can import the messages from his mailbox mounting his HD trough LAN, but when I try to check the mbox, they have an icon as they were text file, and not recognized by Mail... is this a network problem, or just his version of Eudora is too old for an automatic import?

Or put Eudora on the new machine and drag the Eudora folder over. It always worked for me.
