Importing private keys into keychain

The Keychain Access application doesn't seem to be able to import plain RSA private keys in .pem format, so does anyone know how to do this? Do I have to add any extra attributes to the key file for Keychain Access to be able to read it?

I want my keys to show up just like my thawte keys, but I'm a little unsure if Apple were clever enough to make the Keychain Access application able to import them. And when there's no option to export neither the keys nor the certificates, it makes the whole thing pretty unusable [/rant].

My self-made certificates import just fine, though, but I need those private keys to actually use them.

I agree...there should be some way to do this. Anybody got any suggestions?
