Hi, I m trying to connect via ethernet a ibook with a imac.....but it seems they dont wanna work. The network status show me that the ethernet plug isnt connected...but when I try to connect two ibooks (one of them is g3, and the another is g4, both with panther) it work fine. The problem is just with the imac.

a idea???

the imac is with panther too, and Im not usign a router..the conection is direct.

If your iMac is an older one, you will need a cross-over ethernet cable, (not a standard ethernet patch cable) or do the connecting through a hub. A cross-over cable has reversed connections. The newer systems auto-switch internally to make the connection work.

Hi, I think that DeltaMac have the answer...I was reading something like it in apple.com. The i-mac is a little bit more older (like less of one year ago, I think, its the 800mhz flatten panel....really its not a big older). Sometimes the ethenet work...and sometimes dont wanna work.

Thanks to both!!

by the way...excuse my english :p
