Incorrect Free space

I have connected a new external HD to my Mac via firewire. Disk Utility indicates it has 145 Gb on it. I copied two folders over to it for a total of 72 GB. Yet the finder and disk Utility indicate that 112 Gb were used. Where is the missing Gb? I checked using invisible files on. There was nothing unusual there. I am not using Time Machine on this HD. I ran Disk Repair. Everything is OK. Anyone have any ideas?

Using g4 tower with 1.75 Gb memory and os 10.5.3.
 
What size does a "Get Info" report on those folders now that they're on the hard drive? Do they still report 72GB, or are they bigger now?
