Increasing Ram

Hi
Using OSX 10.3.4
After earlier problems today I have reinstalled my software from installation CDs
I am nearly back on track but one of my applications won't run - it comes up with a message "software requires software or hardware that is missing - 384MB of RAM"
I know how to increase the RAM on OS9 but can't find out how to do this on OSX

it sounds like you need more physical ram in your mac. like you need to buy and upgrade the ram.

also, 10.3.9 is a much reccomended and free update from 10.3.4

RAM modules are hardware that plug in to the motherboard. Doesn't matter which OS you are using.

What Mac are you using?
Which software reports the error?
Did you originally have a "virtual disc" in use?

I am using ibook G4
I am trying too run Final Cut Pro which was running happily before I reinstalled software
I am not sure what a "virtual disc" is I'm afraid

I am using ibook G4 1.07HHz and looking at profile I now have 256MB of built in memory which doesn't seem very big to me?
It is final cut pro which gives the error message (needing 384MB of RAM) but the application was working fine before I tried to update. One of the updates I tried to install was OS 10.3.9 but after difficulties I am loath to try installing any updates until I know what went wrong.
I'm afraid I have no idea what a virtual disc is!

Although I archived as I installed I can't remember what you do with the Previous System preference saved in the folder. When I looked in the applications saved there - there were very few (as compared to the applications in my current system preference folder)

Huge thanks for the replies to my origional queries.

What problems were you having that made you decide to reinstall software?

Did you just reinstall software? Reinstall the operating system? Reformat the drive?

Under the Apple - About this Mac - how much memory does it say you have?

I seem to only have 256MB of memory (about this Mac -it is a G4 1.07 GHzprocessor)
I reinstalled my software after a complete blank screen kind of crash after trying to do several software updates at once - now realise this was silly since I probably don't have enough space. So I am now back on OS10.3.4 which is working well apart from running Final Cut Pro which says it needs 384MB of RAM.
I do see that this is a problem - what I don't understand is why it ran perfectly before. I am not runnning with heaps of media - just a couple of quicktime movies.
I archived as I installed but can't remember what to do with the Previous system folder now - Final cut isn't in the applications folder either)

I am just getting used to the site - sorry for posting new threads.

I am not sure how much memory my Hubby got when he bought it in early 2004 - and cannot check with our supplier till tomorrow. I am registered with applecare so will have to try and sort it out tomorrow I suspect (it's just a shame they don't open on Sunday)

The only wierd thing is that Final cut ran fine before the crash.
Thanks for all your help.

Big thanks to all who tried to help me on Sunday.
In case our interested - I ran out of RAM upgrading software but not before Final Cut had upgraded which is why it needed more RAM.
I have ordered lots more RAM today since there never seems to be enough !
