Info on Archive & Install

I'm going to "Archive and Install" my system and I would like to know some things. How should I back up my applications folder? Will my preferences be deleted and what should I do about programs like Snapz Pro that I purchased and rely on preferences to make sure I have a registered copy?

some apps might need reinstallation. but if you archive/reinstall, you don't actually need to backup the apps, since they're going to be archived on the same volume.

of course, if you *can*, I'd simply clone your main volume to a FireWire drive completely.
