Infrared receivers for mac os 9?

Lately, I've been brainstorming a project for an MP3 jukebox to go under my TV. What I have envisioned is an old Powermac 7500 or such from eBay, fitted with a bigger hard drive, and OS 9 with iTunes. No biggie, right?

What I want to do with this, which makes it kind of difficult, is attach an IR receiver to the Mac, so I can use my universal remote to control it instead of using a mouse or keyboard. However, I haven't seen any IR receivers which would be programmable in that respect and work with OS 9. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

i was hoping to find a similar solution for OS X, my idea, though was to use the IR receiver as IR output as well. windows users have USB IR devices that can "learn" commands from different remotes, allowing the user to use his computer as a universal remote. this, paired with sony ericsson clicker, would make my phone control everything in the room. tv, my fan, the lights, etc (they are all IR).
i hope someone finds a solution =)
