Installing 10.4 on a semi-supported iMacc

Hey im wondering if I will be able to install 10.4 on the family G3 iMac.
It meets all of the syster requirements except inbuilt firewire, and a dvd reader.

10.4 Requirements:
* Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor
* Built-in FireWire
* 256MB of RAM
* 3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools)

My iMac specs
* Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3 processor
* Built-in USB
* 330MB of RAM
* 20GB hard disk with plenty of room left

Im unsure why inbuilt firewire is needed and was wondering if anyone had tried installing it on a mac without it.

And since it dosent have a dvd reader would it be possible to make a dmg of 10.4, copy it to my ipod, boot from my ipod and install it?

Thanks

Ok this is what Phill Schiller had to say on this issue when i emailed him:

Hi Josh,

I hope all is well with you.

The reference to Firewire is used as a way to describe a class of G3 systems that have an older system architecture than most G3 systems in use today (it's not that there is any specific tie to Firewire). Continuing to support these pre-Firewire G3 systems with new OS releases is actually pretty tough and something we could not keep doing.

Phil
